NO Wildcat Lunch In
The Foreseeable Future.....
April 20, 2020
Fellow Wildcatters:
First Off.....Happy Birthday To The Pampered
Princess Of The Prairie.....our own,
gracious, talented and humble, Princess
Lila. I will not announce her age,
as we all are heading in that direction.....but
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, LILA !! (I only have
birthdays for some classmates, sorry if I
missed yours) The
actual day was Friday, April 17th. We all
have missed seeing Lila the last few years!!
Here are a couple of great, old time
memories of past Lila Celebrations.....MOST
PICTURES YOU JUST CLICK TO ENLARGE. I
know that is pretty high tech for some of
you, but it works.
Ahd
remember the Special Candy Bars?
Collector Items, Now....(She is SO
spoiled)
The
Great Corona Cruise!!
Glidden was one of the first towns around
that decided that enough was enough.
Residents created the Corona Cruise.....The
plan is to have people order food at one of
the four Glidden eating places: Lincoln
Club, Dairy Mart, Las Margaritas and I
forgot the other.....then they would SCOOP THE LOOP up
and down main street. ...someone counted
over 100 vehicles in their first caravan on
Friday, the 10th. One
person had a sign that said "Honk, and I
will drink beer!".....Obviously, the horns
were blasting away...Crystal B. was one of the
scoopers, just like 1967 after choir
practice......
Lots of honking and Jim & Peggy were
watching in lawn chairs. Fun idea!! Time to
enjoy life, I would say....This looks to be
a weekly event. .Photos by CB
Paul
Wins Dance Contest!!
Yes, Stew
won a dance contest in Mesa, Az, with a
Dancing With The Stars talent
search/event........Famous for his Stougard
Shuffle and moves that would make a show
girl blush........Paul and a professional
dance instructor (female I think) won first
place!! Paul credited his days at the
Starlite Ballroom with The Rumbles and Leo
Greco....Ok, maybe not Leo and his
polka band. When interviewed, Paul
remarked, "Well, once you got it, you got
it!" Congrats to Paul.....I was able to find a
couple of photos....Believe It Or Not.
Mr.
Cardinal Copes With The Quarantine......
Warren,
like all of us, is struggling with the virus
lockdown. He says he really misses baseball
and watching the St. Louis Cardinals beat up
on the Chicago Cubs.....He does connect as
much as possible with his grandkids.....Hmmmmm,
I wonder what WR has in that cup?.....do we
need a contest?.....Warren
and Mary have
moved away from Downtown DM, a
little....crime?...No Way!.....but just in time
to be shut in.....I am sure they miss the
travel and the dining out....always on the
go...the Jet Setters of Polk County.....Ah,
The Days Of Whine and
Roses.......Huh?, what's
that?......Eh.....Wine and Roses......My
Bad.
Jim's
Attention Span Reached......
Criss
Has Been Making Teddy Bears...
Mainly
for our Cool Cat in Utah and his grandkids.
Baseball themes.....(I think the Cubbie Bear
is for himself, but dont tell anyone). The
stuffed bears turned out great! Nice job,
CB.....rumor is Jimmy himself posed for the
Chicago Cubs one, but this is a family
newsletter, so that will not be pursued.
He has told people that he has this fantasy
of dressing up as a Giant Cub and scaring
the neighborhood........UH....OK.....Notice that the turquoise one has Ellie, her
name, on the arm....So Cute.......I also
heard that CB might be going into the dog
training business. Kind of a Glidden Dog
Whisperer.....Oh? What's that?......Never
mind.....
Diamond Jim
Tracy, An Avid Bird Watcher And Chicago Cubs
Fan, Sent Me The Following....
And I
found this photo of Jim, Rick and DBT. You
know it is Jim as he walked around wearing
his Glidden letter jacket until age
45....and Rick was the "Eddie Haskel" of
Idaho Street, always with the "Bling" and
joining them was "Clarence "Lumpie"
Rutherford", AKA Homer Garp, Rick's neighbor
to the North...Trouble Brewing? I would bet
on it........Believe
It Or Not
An
anonymous source from Utah sent me this
photo of a couple of handsome men attending
a Colorado Rockies game last fall. Remember
when there was baseball? Not sure who these
guys are. The young one seems to be holding
up the Old Guy. I need help with
identification...any ideas?.....Is the Old Guy
Uncle Fester of The Addams Family?
And
I dug around an old box and discovered a
classic photo of James Grant showing the
preferred technique for dismounting a swing
during recess. Jim always was in a hurry to
get back to the classroom and continue his studies!
Believe It Or Not!
Talked With Some
Other Wildcats.....
* It was great to hear from John....He is
doing pretty well, but like all of us, he is
very bored. Still working, but his job is
trying to do some online things. He sounded
great and full of energy, but he may have taken a
nap right afterward.
* I called Jeff and he had some good news on
his cancerous tumor. It has shrunk by 30% in
the last two months. Every two weeks he has
a procedure done (infusion?) to drain the tumor. He
cannot drive, as his vision really
struggles, but other than that, he feels
great.
* Lora Lee says things are good and Stan and
her are anxiously waiting for Spring to
finally get here, so they can get into the
fields. Her lambs are doing fine.
* Peggy and Jim are very quarantined. PCI
says Jim watches so many Westerns and
History Channel stuff, that she sometimes
heads to the Doll House....Eh Small
House....for seclusion. Jim's health has
really improved from a year ago! He is
hoping to golf some this summer.
I am seldom on Facebook and news I hear
might be scattered and old.....a lot like
me.....Some of my news may be stretched a
little....No, say it ain't so....one never
knows....PT Barnum called it a
Humbug.......I call it Yellow
Journalism......or anonymous sources.....or
CNN.
This Lockdown
Has Been A Challenge.....
I have been getting my exercise.....I go
from the kitchen, to my chair, to the
office, to the
bathroom, then back to the kitchen, chair,
office, bathroom...etc......I call it "circuit
training".....I am on the computer-iPad a
lot....I do read......history mainly.....but
like everyone, this is getting old. My self
imposed rule is NO TV until after 5:00 p.m. Things
are so boring, that I filled out my MLB All-Star Ballot the
other day.....You think it is too
late?......Like I said....I read a
lot....and piddle around on some
projects....I talk to family almost every
day as they are bored, too. I have a son in
law, nephew and brother Randy in the oil
business and companies are closing all of
the time.....I heard gas was 98 cents in
Ankeny. My grand daughters have no school
and live in my basement as Daddy works in
Texas....other kids stay overnight almost
every night here....so it can be a
zoo.....my daughter makes masks and gives
them away....sewing machine is always
humming.....I watch Westerns (Is it a gender
thing?) but have seen them over and over
again....You can't beat Audie Murphy or Randolph
Scott.....and I love old movies from the 30s
and 40s, too.....Mainly gangster films.....but like everything....We need
to Improvise, Adapt and Overcome....I hate
the idea of hiding in our homes like
frightened rabbits......I fall asleep in my
chair frequently (another gender thing?) And
I stay up WAY TOO LATE.
And I
Dream A Lot
Of
Grabbing A Bat
Just One More Time.

Well, I guess I
have WAY too much time on my hands....
I actually
turned on my TV and saw THIS today......No
disrespect, but talk about NO
SPORTS......Man are they getting desperate.....
I feel kind of
sad that there will be no Wildcat Lunches
in the fore-seeable future. So I sent out
this newsletter. I
also would like to thank those who sent
sympathies for my loss
of my brother, Gaylord, a couple of weeks
ago.
It was much
appreciated.
We would have
gotten together to celebrate Lila's
birthday, last Friday, but the virus
situation halted that. So I will end with
one of the greatest songs ever recorded. A
classic and it was NOT cheap.....maybe 99
cents, but we all would agree that Lila is worth it.
She's always pampered
you know.
Wishing YOU and your family the
very best. Stay Safe.
Go Wildcats!! Restore The Roar!!

Top Cat
Inventor of Fake News
Now I am not
one of those conspiracy types, but think
about it. Has anyone EVER seen Tracy in the
same room as Uncle Fester? Could they be one
and the same? Kind of like Batman and Bruce
Wayne? This reporter vows to find The
Truth....
