Remembering A Couple Of Dances.....
Really? Man, I was terrible at going to dances. I know, it is tough being socially awkward......I'm a rebel, I'm a loner...(Pee Wee's Big Adventure). The first dancing I ever saw was in Steve Moorhouse;s basement. It was a great hangout for us guys.. Pool and ping pong table. 45s blaring in the corner. I can still hear Ricky Nelson, Elvis, Chubby Checker, Freddie and the Dreamers and later on Herman and the Hermits. One day, us guys were being shown how to dance by a couple of neighbor girls who just happened to show up. Peggy S, Mary Kay Leonard, Kris J and I would guess Shelly H and maybe Alice H were there trying to explain the difference between a couple of types of dances. (We had the BEST girls in our class)  I was a slow learner. The only one I could handle was the Twist and I could not do that very well. I would guess that Steve, Fritz, Jim, Rick and myself were probably there. The girls were very patient..

The first real dance that I remember was in junior high, probably 7th grade. It was out at someone's farm. All I remember was it was hot and crowded and in a basement.

A year or so later, on the first day of school or close to it, we were all outside and someone starting pushing real hard for another dance. No one would host it and I was put into a real arm twisting situation to have it at our house, across from the school/football field. So I got permission (I bet my Mom was thrilled) and we had it in the basement of our original house in Glidden (pictured). Man, was it small, crowded and unbelievably hot. We barely had enough room for a ping pong table down there before the dance and now a real school dance? Are you kidding? A couple of kids got in trouble for throwing apples at our neighbor's garage. I would guess John H. and Dave S, but just guessing. Not much else to do, there was no room to dance. Anyway, that was the last dance that I ever hosted. I wonder what my folks thought. Like we did not have enough kids around, anyway. Dad was probably working late and it all fell on poor Mom.....anyway, great memories...... d.tryon

COMMENT: Also wanted to let you know that the junior high dance that was in a hot , crowed basement on a farm was at my house.  The walls were destroyed with foot prints and punch.  It had to be totally repainted and that was the first and last party I was ever allowed to have.......C.Bentley
